Two Philosophy Majors awarded President's Council Scholarships
Philosophy Majors Ara Astourian and Jennifer Cryer were awarded President's Council Scholarships for 2008-2009. The President's Council Scholars program is considered the most prestigious scholarship series at the University. Three other Philosophy Majors have been awarded President's Council Scholarships in the previous three years.

Cal Poly Pomona Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Major approved by CSU Chancellor.
On May 28, 2008, CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed approved the Cal Poly Pomona STS Major. We anticipate the Major, which will be administered by the Philosophy Department, to start Fall 2009. STS is an interdisciplinary program for research and teaching which studies the interaction between science and technology, and society. Professor Laurie Shrage accepts Directorship of Women's Studies Center at Florida International University.
Shrage has been in the Cal Poly Pomona Philosophy Department since 1987, contributing in a variety of extremely valuable ways to the campus community, including the Ethnic and Women's Studies Department. In 1998, she won the Hart Award, which recognizes faculty members who are regarded as role models and leaders, both on campus and in the community. She will start at Florida International August 2008.

Cal Poly Team among Top 4 in National Ethics Bowl
