Music Industry Studies
The Cal Poly Music Industry Studies Emphasis is one of the most unique and affordable programs of study in the nation. The program currently has more than 120 majors and is growing rapidly.

Students in the three sub-areas of Music Industry Studies select from a wide variety of classes including Recording Techniques, Introduction to the Digital Audio Workstation, Digital Mastering, Tracking & Editing, Songwriting, Midi Recording, Survey of Popular Music, and Jazz and Beyond. Junior and senior level students take Publishing, Management, and Film & TV Music classes with adjunct professionals working in the music industry. All students participate in ethnic, jazz and traditional music classes and performing ensembles. Hands-on training in our recording studios and labs gives students the necessary preparation for careers in the music industry.

Music Industry Studies students are required to participate in a music industry studies internship program. The internship program has students working with companies such as ASCAP, Interscope Records, Sony Music Publishing, Warner Bros Records, MCA, Sarinjay Entertainment, Universal Music Distribution, Mad Hatter Studios and several other area employers. Many go on to work for these companies.
