Student Assistant Eligibility Requirements
from Payroll Services (aka Human Resource Services Customer Service Center)

Enrollment
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6.1 units. Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 4.0 units.Extended University units and/or units from enrollment at another California State University may be included to meet the minimum unit requirement. (Student will have to provide appropriate documentation.)

Hours
Student assistants are allowed to work 20 hours per week while school is in session. The 20-hour rule applies to hours worked in all jobs. Under emergency or unusual situations, the student may be allowed to work up to 30 hours per week, but this requires Vice Presidential (or designee) approval. Working more than 30 hours per week disqualifies student assistant status.

GPA
Student assistants are required to maintain a minimum overall GPA and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0. (Note: if a student's GPA falls below 2.0 and the department must hire the student, this also requires Vice Presidential (or designee) approval and additional paperwork.)

Quarter Off (Bridge Students)
Continuing students are allowed to work one quarter when they are not enrolled in classes. To qualify for a quarter off, the student must have been enrolled in the minimum unit requirement (6.1 units for undergraduate or 4 units for graduate students) for three continuous quarters prior to taking a quarter off. (Note: If a student is not taking any classes and was enrolled for 3 consecutive quarters with the minimum number of units each quarter but did not work during those 3 quarters, the student must have maintained a minimum overall GPA and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2l0 to qualify as a Bridge student.)

During a quarter off, students are paid as bridge student assistants and are allowed to work no more than 40 hours per week. Bridge student assistant earnings are subject to 7.5% PST (Part-time, Seasonal, Temporary) retirement plan deducations and 1.45% Medicare tax. The employing department is required to pay a matching amount of 1.45% for Medicare tax.
