The repertoire of the Cal Poly Soul Music Ensemble will come from the pop music commonly associated with the African-American experience. Students will be presented the most common practice usage, basic skills, and a practical historical perspective that will give a conceptual basis for adequate musical interpretation of this unique American musical experience. The terms used to identify and categorize music will be standard in the music industry, but that will not limit our examination of a full range of styles.
