
COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT
The Communication Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in its Organizational Communication Option to begin Fall 2009. The Department serves approximately 431 majors with options in Communication Studies, Journalism, and Public Relations.
The Position: The successful candidate will teach some combination of the following undergraduate courses: intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, communication theory, organizational communication, group communication, and persuasion. The successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to students and to campus-wide initiatives such as learning centeredness, service learning, obtaining external funding to support teaching and scholarship, and international education. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, research and publication, and service to the department, university, and community. Salary dependent upon qualifications of applicant. The Department: The Communication Department offers a challenging, hands-on program with specialized options in communication studies, journalism, and public relations. Additionally, the requisite internship program emphasizes practical application and access to job opportunities, giving students a head start on their professional careers. Graduates earning a Bachelor of Science degree in communication can pursue a variety of careers in newspapers, magazines, public relations firms and departments, and government agencies. The department’s options also help prepare students for graduate programs in communication.
