OPPORTUNITIES
- Help out
Children
The greater community of Pomona needs help from dedicated
individuals who will serve as role models and assist children
in subjects ranging from math, english, basic computer
skills, and many others.
- Make New
Friends
Not only will you make friends with the children, but
a bond will become established between yourself and other
volunteers.
- Build
A Strong Resume
Real world experience will show graduate schools that
you are serious about a future career and you possess
the skills needed to work with children.
HOW TO RECEIVE
CREDIT FOR VOLUNTEERING
- Visit the
Departmen of Psychology and
Sociology
Obtain the petition for special project
approval. Ask a secretary as they will be familiar with
this sheet and mention it is for the Friendmobile. Also,
be sure to obtain a Travel Authorization form.
- Fill out
form with this provided information
Circle One: BHS 200, BHS 400, (Ind. Study), etc.
FACULTY PROJECT SUPERVISOR: Felicia Thomas
PROJECT TOPIC: Friendmobile
PURPOSE OF PROJECT: (1) Provide tutoring services; (2)
mentoring services; (3) assistance as needed to secondary
school children and their families (Under the supervision
of Dr. Thomas).
PROCEDURE FOR COMPLETING THE PROJECT: (1) Attendance at
weekly assigned sessions at the Cal Poly Downtown Center;
(2) the final exam week IS a work week and is not optional.
- Next Step
During available office hours, head over to see Dr. Thomas.
When you see Dr. Thomas, you should have with you the
petition form and the travel authorization form completed.
- Final Step
Take your completed petition form and travel authorization
form to the Department of Psychology and Sociology (The
Department of Psychology and Sociology are also known
as the BHS Office).
WHAT DAYS YOU
CAN VOLUNTEER
- Every Wednesday
and Thursday
You can come from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
You may come for 1 or more hours during this period on
either or both of these days.
- The best
time to show up
We especially need help from 3 to 4 pm and from 4 to 5
pm. We need help now (Fall 2003) and
in Winter and Spring 2004.

THE 60FWY EAST OR WEST
Exit Garey Avenue, go North
Turn left onto Second Street, turn left on Main Street
- DRIVING
THE 57FWY NORHT OR SOUTH
Merge onto the 10 Freeway east,
Exit Garey Avenue, go South,
Turn right onto Second Street, turn left on Main Street
- Only park
in spots with a Cal Poly Pomona sign in front of them,
otherwise you must pay 75 cents to park. You may also
park in the front for free.
