Permission Numbers
- Permission numbers are used to permit students to enroll into classes that would otherwise be inaccessible to students. Permission numbers can be set up by departments to override more than one enrollment restriction.
- Permission numbers are given out to students for use in enrolling in classes via BroncoDirect.
- Students with holds that prevent registration, such as financial obligations or advising holds, will not be able to register even with the use of permission numbers. Holds must be cleared prior to any attempt to register.
- Permission Numbers can be used only once. When an attempt is made to use permission numbers, and such attempt failed due to other restrictions on the student registration, then that permission number is no longer valid. A new one will need to be given to the student.
- Permission Numbers do not override time conflicts.
Types of Enrollment Exceptions
- Class Permission Numbers (Seat Capacity Override) - To permit students to enroll into a closed class
- Instructors are given a set number of permission numbers for each course before the beginning of the add/drop period.
- It is the instructor's discretion to give this out to students based upon information about other students who will be withdrawing from the class.
- If the course has a requisite that also blocks the student from registering in the class, this specific permission number will not allow them to register. Students will need to obtain a permission number from the department contact that is set up to override both seat capacity and requisites.
- This type of permission number can be used only during the add/drop period.
- Student-Specific Permission – Allows a specific student to enroll in a course section.
- Set-up of this list is done at the time the course is scheduled.
- Student BroncoNumbers are entered into the student-specific permission list.
- These students are then able to enroll during pre-registration and add/drop period.
- Those not on this list will not be able to register for the class.
- Examples of uses: “consent of instructor prerequisites”, senior seminar, performance music courses, or honors course.
- Department Permission Numbers (Department Override) – To override requisites and/or class level and/or seat capacity
- Can be generated at anytime during the registration process per the Department's discretion.
- Department personnel can override “requisite” enrollment restrictions after determining that the student is meeting the course requisite.
- Authorized department personnel can override class level restrictions (i.e., undergrads in graduate courses.)
- Should be used sparingly as Department Permission Numbers can allow co-requisites, pre-requisites, and level restrictions to be by-passed.
