Academic advising is essential to ensure a successful academic experience at Cal Poly Pomona. The EFL department encourages English and Spanish Majors to meet regularly with their advisors as needed in order to understand university policies, curriculum changes, and/or department policies which may impact a student's academic progress. While the department recognizes the importance of interaction amongst peers, it strongly recommends that questions regarding official policies, classes, curriculum, etc., be answered by faculty members and not other students
English and Spanish majors are not assigend an academic advisor. They are free to select one of the listed advisors in their area of interest. are assigned an academic advisor.
Advisor lists are posted on several faculty bulletin boards.
Students are strongly encouraged to see their regular advisors for any advising problems. However, in an urgent situation, any currently approved advisor may be consulted or asked to sign a petition, etc. when the student's advisor is not available.
All English and Spanish majors must attend the annual advising workshop.
All English and Spanish Majors are advised at least once a year at the winter quarter Advising Workshop. An e-mail message will be sent out at the end of fall quarter informing all majors of the dates for the advising workshop.
Students who do not attend the Advising Workshop will have a hold placed on their registration which may delay their registration for the following Fall quarter. To remove the hold, the student must contact the advisor and schedule an advising appointment.
Students who attend the annual advising workshop are strongly urged to consult with their regular advisor during the rest of the year.
