The Institute of New Dance and Cultures presents
Festival of Fridays on Friday, May 8, 15, & 22, 2009 at lunch hour (12:00 – 1:00 p.m.)
Location: lawn area in front of the Darlene May Gymnasium.
Past Event: Dance Concert
A Student/Faculty Dance Concert will be contemporary interpretations accompanied by experimental and contemporary musical influences.
“It’s important that we to learn and appreciate dance styles from a variety of backgrounds and hybrids,” said Gayle Fekete, Director of the Institute of New Dance and Cultures. The concert focus is experimental and modern. In addition to our faculty and student works, we are fortunate to be working with two guest artists who are working in the professional dance communities of Los Angeles (Deborah Rosen) and San Diego (Kimberly Gregg). We have also invited Samantha Cullity, a Guest alum who is currently studying at Cal Arts.
The Institute of New Dance & Cultures is unique to the Cal Poly Pomona campus and offers a program involving students in the study of how art functions in society on personal, local, national and global levels. The Institute offers traditional dance courses combined with courses in world dance and cultures, cultural dance forms, and exploration of non-traditional or experimental dances and choreography. The Institute relies on the support of the university and members of the community.
