Welcome to the Institute of New Dance and Cultures!
The Institute’s vision is to reflect a culturally diverse and artistically inclusive student-centered approach to the dance experience at Cal Poly Pomona. “New Dance and Cultures” refers to a humanistic, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary approach to the study of the way art functions in society on a personal, local, national, and global level. “Dance” is defined to include human movement and aesthetic expression, movement based interdisciplinary work, and western and non-western cultural forms.
The Institute supports a variety of campus/community projects, invites innovative collaborations across groups and disciplines, and promotes the development of community engagement projects that reflect the diverse and dynamic cultural climate. The mission of the Institute is to provide quality dance courses and experiences for the general student population, with an emphasis on common humanistic threads of art and expression found across cultures. By addressing the complexity of contemporary multicultural society through the examination of cultural issues, global perspectives, and personal histories, the Institute is committed to developing student-centered study.
