Welcome to the Psychology and Sociology Department!

Announcements and Events

Our department offers BA degrees in both Psychology and Sociology and an MS degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.  We also offer minors in Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice.  We comprise two of the many exciting academic disciplines within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, and our students and faculty are committed to Cal Poly Pomona's "learn by doing" philosophy. The mission of the Psychology and Sociology Department is to prepare students for success at school, work, home, and in society through involvement in education, research, and professional activities.

We are dedicated to the belief that immersion in multifaceted and complex social and academic experiences help students understand social relations more clearly, manage their interpersonal relations more effectively and grow in self-understanding. Our department models life-long learning through improvement in educational philosophy and practices, both inside and outside the classroom.Read more...

Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Anthony Ocampo is the newest addition to the Cal Poly Pomona Psychology and Sociology Department family.  A native of Los Angeles, Dr. Ocampo earned BA and MA degrees from Stanford University and most recently, his PhD in Sociology from UCLA.  Motivated by a desire to tell the stories of underrepresented groups, Dr. Ocampo's research and teaching both center on the experiences of Filipino and Latino children of immigrants living in urban centers of the United States.   His latest line of research investigates the lives of LGBT children of immigrants as ameans to show how individuals negotiate their racial, gender, and sexual identities within different social situations.  When he is not on the job, Dr. Ocampo enjoys spending his time with his family and friends, and on his newest athletic passion, CrossFit.
