Alumni Donor: Joseph Gardner Pillsbury

Joseph Gardner Pillsbury is an energetic alumnus who currently serves on the CLASS Alumni Council as Vice-President for Behavioral Sciences.
A native Californian, Joseph is a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor.

Joseph has served over 15 years in child abuse and neglect crisis intervention with Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Emergency Response Command Post. In the 1980's, Joseph maintained a private practice and served as a community college instructor in interpersonal relations and mental health technology. He also worked at this time as a counselor in vocational rehabilitation, and helped clients in their adjustment to disabilities. Since 1991, Joseph has served Inland Hospice Association in
Claremont, CA, as an educator, counselor and board member, including two terms as Board Chair.

Joseph is a frequent participant in Alumni Professor for a Day, in which his extensive experience in social work has proven valuable to BHS students who hope to become social workers. A 1970 graduate, Joseph credits his own interactions with professionals in his field work, and support classes in social work and probation and parole, along with his sociology courses, as being the classes that were most helpful to his career.

Joseph also believes that his experience at Cal Poly Pomona taught him some important life lessons. He learned the value of hard work, and how to use his own life experiences to assist others in their own personal growth and development.

Joseph has been a volunteer for Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens since 1996, and is the author of a new children's book on the environment. His current practice is in Transformational Arts, exploring the value of spirit-centered ecology, wholeness and change for the planet.

In addition to his commitment of time and energy to the CLASS Alumni Chapter and our alumni events, Joseph and his wife, Rabyn, have generously donated to the CLASS Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship Fund, which will benefit CLASS students in perpetuity. We are grateful for all of Joseph's help, and are delighted that he is such an active member of our CLASS alumni family.
