2008 Panetta Institute Congressional Internship

Students in all colleges and majors are encouraged
to apply for the Panetta Internship

panetta internshipThe Panetta Institute for Public Policy on the campus of California State University, Monterey Bay offers a golden opportunity for university students to experience first-hand the workings of the U.S. Congress and Washington politics.

This Congressional Intern Program begins with an intensive two-week course at California State University, Monterey Bay with Leon Panetta and other seasoned veterans explaining how the legislative process actually works. Then each intern is assigned to a Capitol Hill office of a member of the California congressional delegation (both Democratic and Republican members sponsor interns) to work for two and a half months.

Offered during the fall semester, the intern program is open to students who are appointed by the presidents of each of the twenty-three CSU campuses, as well as Santa Clara University
and Dominican University. The academic course is held at the Panetta Institute in September. Participants live and work in the Washington D.C. area for the following eleven weeks.

The Institute covers all program costs including air travel, housing in Washington, D.C., and CSUMB campus services during orientation. Interns may earn up to 20 semester credits. Each intern will also receive a stipend to help cover other expenses.
