Cal Poly Pomona's National Model United Nations team has been attending the national meeting of the NMUN each spring since the mid-1970s. The National Model United Nations is the largest student-administered conference in the nation. It attracts the finest students from universities throughout the country and from a number of foreign countries. Each spring, some 2500 students from over 250 universities meet at the UN building in New York and at a nearby hotel to engage in a week-long simulation of the actual UN. The exercise is highly demanding, requires considerable preparation, and represents one of the most memorable activities of a student's academic career. On this campus, the NMUN is an admired, if selective, student extracurricular activity. Each fall quarter, participating students are chosen by a selection committee from a large pool of applicants. Students thus selected must enroll in a rigorous preparatory seminar for the winter quarter. Then, they travel in the spring to New York to attend the conference.
Cal Poly Pomona has won several awards over the years for its participation. The university has been accorded awards for four straight conferences from 1998-2001. In 2001 Cal Poly Pomona achieved the highest award -- Outstanding Delegation.
Cal Poly Pomona's NMUN program is generously funded by the Associated Students, Incorporated and by the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. Interested students may contact Professor John Moore, History Department, (909) 869-3585, or via email, at jamoore2@csupomona.edu
