Academy for Literacy through the Arts - Family Literacy Fair

Faculty member and Inland Valley Storyteller Sandra Posey performs face-painting on a community youth attending the Literacy Fair.

Over 350 community members visited the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center to learn about literacy and family resources in the Pomona area.   Many community agencies were present to support this effort, among them, the Pomona Library, Pomona Advocates for Communication and Trust, Inland Valley Storytellers, the L.A. County Department of Health Services, Spanish Trails Girl Scouts, and more.   Cal Poly Pomona alumna Penelope Torribio entertained and educated an enthralled audience of children and adults alike with her lively puppeteering and singing.

Every child who attended the Family Literacy Fair received a new book of their own to take home with them.   Free, healthy snacks were provided by the Pomona Police Officers Association, and art and educational activities were coordinated by students in various student clubs at Cal Poly Pomona.   We are looking forward to next year's Family Literacy Fair!
