The Political Science Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2008.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, Comparative Politics, or other closely related field.   A Ph.D. from an Area Studies program with a primary focus on political science will be considered.   The degree should be awarded from an accredited university by July 1, 2008.
• Evidence of teaching ability; please send teaching evaluations if available.
• Evidence of ability to work with and mentor a diverse student population.
• Evidence of scholarly potential (conference presentations, publications, grant development).
• Evidence of ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in International Relations and at least one of the following areas in comparative politics:  Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, or the Middle East.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

• Evidence of ability to teach the introductory course in American Government.
• Evidence of interest and ability in teaching quantitative and qualitative research methods.
• Evidence of an interest in working with student programs such as Model UN or other “model” programs addressing different areas of the world (e.g., OAU, OAS, Arab League, etc.).

• A cover letter that describes the candidate’s teaching and research experience and interests and that addresses the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description above; this must include a statement of their teaching philosophy within a multicultural environment with examples of past experiences.
• A curriculum vitae comprised of at least those elements specified on the application form.
• Three recent letters of reference (dated within the last two years); if the Ph.D. has not yet been awarded, at least one of these letters must be from the dissertation committee chair indicating that the degree is expected to be awarded before July 1, 2008.  E-mail letters may be submitted to meet deadline requirements, but they must be followed by original letters with original signatures.
• Names, addresses, and phone numbers of 2 additional references.
• A copy of all graduate transcripts.  An official copy of the transcript will be required of any candidates invited for a campus interview if it was not provided with the original package.
