Welcome!

College of Letters, Arts, and Social SciencesCLASS provides introductory and advanced course work in more than 20 degree and certificate programs. The College also provides courses that substantially make up the General Education curriculum required of all students.

Bachelor's degree programs and minors are offered in the performing arts, humanities, behavioral and social sciences, and kinesiology. Master's degrees are offered in economics, English, psychology, history, public administration, and kinesiology.

CLASS programs develop creative and critical thinking skills and emphasize the application of theory to practice. Students learn through performance-based activities in the humanities, arts and social sciences, and through the integration of mind and body in health and wellness activity.

CLASS supports initiatives that engage students and faculty in the collaborative pursuit of knowledge. Our programs encourage collegiality across various segments of the University, and with the local and global communities we serve.

CLASS promotes access to our programs among underrepresented student populations, and provides resources and services vital to student success. The College also encourages students to investigate opportunities for overseas study through the International Center to promote increased multicultural understanding.

 

Mission Statement

The faculty and staff of the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences provide an excellent education for students desiring intellectual enrichment and career enhancement in the humanities, social sciences, and performing arts. The College offers introductory and advanced course work in 20 degree and certificate programs. Central to the mission of the College is the General Education program offered to all students enrolled in the University. The College embraces its role in providing courses and curricula in support of multiple and single subject teaching credential students.The University’s mission to provide for the "intellectual, personal, and professional development" of its students, staff, and faculty lies at the heart of the College’s commitment to offer programs that educate the whole person. It is the mission of the faculty to ensure that all graduates have knowledge about, a critical understanding of, and a desire to engage themselves in the political, economic, social, and cultural problems, issues, and opportunities of the local communities, the nation, and the world.

 

In accord with the values of a comprehensive polytechnic university "preparing students for life, leadership, and careers in a rapidly changing multicultural world," the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences functions to equip CLASS Studentsstudents with lifelong learning skills. These skills include creative and critical thinking processes enabling both qualitative and quantitative reasoning; the application of theory to practice; learning through performance based activities in the arts and social sciences; integration of mind and body in health and wellness activity; and written and oral communication skills.

 

The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences supports initiatives that promote the professional development of faculty and staff, engage students and faculty in active collaboration in the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge, and integrate the arts, humanities, sciences, and technologies.

We contribute to their intellectual and ethical development, and help them to become individuals who are able to integrate and apply humanistic thinking in our complex, diverse, and technological world.
